Collapse ▲Little has changed in insect activity during the past week, with trap captures continually being low or on the decline in most commercial orchards. The exception is brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), which appear to be slightly increasing. A total of 1008 BMSB degree days (DD) have accumulated since biofix in Henderson County, which is equivalent to 57% emergence of first generation adults. In Cleveland County, a total of 1286 DD have accumulated, indicating that 95% of first generation adults have emerged. While an insecticide application for BMSB may have some value on late maturing cultivars in higher elevation orchards, additional insecticides for BMSB in lower elevation orchards are probably not necessary.
With harvest in full swing and insects expected to pose a low threat to the crop from this point forward, this will be the last pest update for 2025. If something unusual pops up, we’ll send out an alert.
