Trap in apple orchardCodling moth and oriental fruit moth (OFM): With the exception of locations that have had high codling moth problems for much of the year, trap captures remain very low in managed orchards. OFM numbers have also been low in most managed orchards. In general, the potential for codling moth or OFM to suddenly become an issue this late in the year is very low if there have not yet been signs of damage.

Apple maggot: Capture of apple maggot flies have declined in each of the past three weeks. Numbers reached their peak at 29 per trap on 28 July, and this week averaged only 5.5 per trap. We are likely past the key apple maggot period.

Brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB): Finally, BMSB trap captures finally increased slightly this week for the first time, with an average of 2.4 adults per trap in Henderson County. This is still a very low number, supporting previous data that suggests populations are declining in western NC. At this time, about 46% of first generation adults have emerged. In Cleveland County, the degree-day model indicates that about 80% have emerged.
