According to the Cougar Blight model, there is an extreme risk of fire blight to open blossoms March 23-25. However, looking at the EIP model, there is a high risk for blossom blight infection on March 23 and March 27. Given the cooler temperatures and the dry weather, I'd feel comfortable going with the EIP model predictions. However, on 3/27 if you do make a pesticide application, this could be enough to trigger an infection event. If you make a pesticide application on the 27th, consider including streptomycin in the tank IF you had a fire blight problem in that block last season. If you want to limit strep applications for resistance management, oxytetracycline or Kasumin is likely sufficient at this point.

According to the Cougar Blight model, there is an extreme risk of fire blight to open blossoms March 23-28. However, looking at the EIP model, there is a high risk for blossom blight infection on March 23, 26, and 27. The limiting factor for a blossom blight infection on these dates is the lack of a wetting event. If you make a pesticide application on the 26th or 27th, consider including streptomycin in the tank IF you had a fire blight problem in that block last season. If you want to limit strep applications for resistance management, oxytetracycline or Kasumin is likely sufficient at this point. On March 24 and 25, the risk for blossom blight infection is moderate. While the EIP values exceed the "100" value threshold for infection, the lack of rain and low daily average temperatures make an infection event less likely. Given all of these considerations, if you do decide to apply an antibiotic, right now March 26 is the best day.

According to the Cougar Blight model, there is a high risk of fire blight to open blossoms on all days except March 26th. However, looking at the EIP model, only low and moderate risks for blossom blight infection are present during the risk forecast dates. Given the cooler temperatures and the dry weather, I'd feel comfortable going with the EIP model predictions. Keep an eye out for March 27th. If temperatures are warmer than anticipated and you make a pesticide application on that date, this could trigger an infection. Right now, I'd be in the watch and wait mode and I'll continue to check the models as the week progresses.
